AcomData PureDrive 1 TB USB 2.0/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive PHD10000USE-72 Buy Now

I've used two of these drives for almost 6 months with *almost* no problem. The "almost" is because this drive simply gets warm--no, *hot*.

The drive has no internal fan and the manufacturer says this is because the aluminum casing dissipates heat so well it doesn't need one. Well, as far as I'm concerned, if this puppy gets as hot as it does on the outside, then it's bound to be almost as hot in the confined insides, too. Soooo, I bought a Vornado "Flippy" fan--one of those small fans with nylon blades, quietest fan I've owned--and set it up to blow across my external drives. No more heat problem (I hope--and I suspect heat may be behind some of the bad reviews).

If not for the perceived heat problem, I'd rate the drive five stars. Get more detail about AcomData PureDrive 1 TB USB 2.0/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive PHD10000USE-72.
