I picked up one of these drives (1TB) for use with a Microsoft Home Server that I am building. I connected it to the server and formatted it. The drive works great. Good speeds, keeps cool, and quiet. The micro-USB cable is short (about 12 inches), but I did not need a long cable. The connection is secure and tight.
One of the big complaints that people have is that they think WD has taken up space on the hard drive with their own software. While it does have software on it, it is on an EEPROM, not the hard drive. It shows up as a virtual CD drive when you plug this device in. WD has a procedure for hiding the virtual CD if it really bothers you. I have no issue with it being there, and it does not affect the operation of the device or your system in any way.
Only complaint that I have is the price, but I guess you have to pay a premium for the largest 2.5 inch drive available.Get more detail about Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 750 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBABM7500ABK-NESN (Midnight Black).
