I have used two of these for about 6 months now, and for the most part I am very satisfied. I use them to tie two offices together via full-time VPN tunnel, which is easy to set up, using the VPN setup wizard. I am not using the 2nd WAN on either, but I may in the future based on bandwidth needs. The (essentially unlimited) SSL VPN is a great cost-saving measure - no need to buy individual client licenses like with a SonicWALL. The SSL VPN works well with Windows and OS X, and presumably Linux, although I haven't tried it. The only caveat is that the SSL VPN is not currently compatible with 64-bit Windows OSs, and Netgear hasn't said if they plan to make it compatible. (Not sure why one of the reviewers was having problems with Firefox - Firefox 3.0.8 connects well on both Win XP and OS X 10.5 for me.) The initial configuration of the SSL VPN gave me some grief, but through the Netgear forums and some trial and error, I got it working (it seemed like there was some hidden limit on the login page message which caused the VPN not to work, if the message is too long?)

The phone tech support for the ProSafe line is pretty good. I was having problems with one of the FVS336G's dropping the WAN connection, and the latest beta firmware cleared up the problem. I was able to install an SSL cert on one for tunnel access with a few hitches (line endings seem to be an issue), but it is working well now (previous firmwares made this feature all but useless, from what I read on the discussion boards.) And Netgear has a very good replacement policy, and next-day turn around if you buy that service option.

Don't buy an Air Mouse from any manufacturer for general desktop use unless you have no desktop! These products do have a learning curve and none of them work as precisely and easily as a dedicated desktop pointing device. Once learned though I now command my desktop with the wave my hand almost as quickly as I do with on the desk. The Gyration product doubles as both an air mouse and a desktop mouse so when a flat surface is available viola! There is a button on the mouse that must pressed when you want to move the pointer on screen while in Air-Mode. Thank goodness, otherwise every hand motion would move the pointer! The supplied driver includes features to define tasks, open apps, locate the pointer, all very useful and easy to assign - no programming required.


The device is heat sensitive, so if left in the sun they stop working until cooled. Also the 100' broadcast isn't as strong as I had hoped so about mid-day the mouse motion sometimes becomes intermittent even when I am only 20' away through a single wall. In fact one of my devices is rated for 30' and the other for 100' and I really can't tell the difference when swapped.

Otherwise, I love them as they are my daily work horse and have been aboard for the last (2 years) ~3500 nautical miles.

This is a great little drive! It quickly and easily added 500GB to my MacBook Air once I made some modifications to Western Digital's setup process. The drive powers itself on a single USB port, unlike some other drives that need two. The drive is totally silent, no vibration, and the included dock is decent but the glossy finish looks odd with the matte finish on the drive itself.

The area WD needs to improve is in SOFTWARE. Every single time you plug this drive in, it mounts a virtual CD on the desktop. You can't turn it off with the drive software. To remove it, you literally have to drag the icon to the trash every single time (reformatting the drive doesn't work). It took me 10 mins on Google to find that WD has a utility to unmount it permanently for both Windows and Mac - it's buried within their site. Downloading this utility and running it FINALLY got rid of the CD icon on my desktop. Frustrating!

WD also provides backup software, but it just isn't anywhere as nice as Time Machine on the Mac or the backup solution for Windows 7. There are also drivers you can install to replace the stock icons on the desktop with WD icons showing how much of the drive is being used. These were the least invasive of WD's software, but added no real value to the drive.

That's 3 DIFFERENT pieces of software to configure. To use a USB hard drive. That's about 3 too many, for my tastes!

The status LEDs on the drive itself are a bit wonky too. There are four LEDs to indicate how much drive space has been taken up. One: They ONLY work if you install the WD software, otherwise they just stay dark. Two: Even when they're on, they make zero sense.

You might think with 4 LEDs that as you filled the drive up, they would light (and stay lit)... kind of like filling up a glass with water. The more in the glass, the more LEDs are lit. This is NOT the case. LED 1 is 0%-25%. LED 2 is 25%-50%. You see where this is going. Only a single LED stays lit, and from any more than 6 inches away you can see WHICH LED is lit: 1, 2, 3, or 4. Could have been a neat feature, but again, software killed it.

To make this drive useful and not frustrating I ended up removing ALL Western Digital software from my Mac, reformatting the drive with Disk Utility, giving up on use of the LEDs on the front, and letting Mac OS manage the backups and the drive itself.

Once you remove all trace of Western Digital software, you're left with a normal, small, quiet hard drive that works great for backups and storage, fits in my (small) laptop bag with little weight added, and looks nice!

I used this to allow me to place my wireless access point in a location that does not currently have a local power source. Suffice it to say, this product is a cheaper investment then hiring an electrician.

As noted in the cons, you may want to limit the use of this to 10/100 speed products. This may not be the best solution for your router/gateways.

It's very easy to install and works perfect. I like the fact that it came with it's own power supply. It also came with a cat 5e cable. Now for the pros and cons...

Pros

- Easy to install
- Perfect compliment to wireless access points
- Very inexpensive option, when compared to installing a new outlet

Cons
============
- It's heavy and more bulky then I expected. It seems unusual for just sending a DC current
- I wish it didn't have the 'built-in' cat 5 whips. I would have preferred that they supply the whips, with an option to use something else. It's mostly an issue on the switch side. I have this dongle hanging from the switch and it wants to pull the switch off the table. No issue if your switch is somehow mounted
- It appears to be only compatible with Linksys products. Not that big of an issue, but if I wanted to use a different brand access point, this goes out the window
- Appears to only transmit at 10/100. So if you have a 802.11 N AP, you may not be able to take advantage of the full speed.
