I purchased this item about a year ago and while I'm not super fond of the two cables and the way they sit kinda horizontal to each other out of the ports, I know that it allows the DVD-player to not need external power and I figured, okay fine it does its job, no problem. Until that is, I discovered the other day, that the player is region free!! What a lucky find!! I can now play European or Asian PAL DVDs in addition to any US NTSC ones, without any additional software, and without purchasing another expensive product.
