This adapter enables me to get onto our wireless network on a different floor, with the signal going diagonally down through walls, a rock/metal fireplace, the washer and dryer, and into a closet! It is plugged into my computer with the USB cable. I did need to put it up on a shelf and secure it in one direction to get the best signal. It went from 1 bar to 3-4 bars when I adjusted the location and antenna direction (use the base and do this!).
Our router is a Linksys WRT300N, but since we have other computers in the house that are b/g, the router is set to "Mixed".
