VIA is not the brand you want. I would definitely recommend a 1394 pci with a Texas Instruments (TI) chipset. What's my reason? I have a firewire audio interface for recording music and sound. I spent a good chunk of money for all my equipment, and upon recording I am more than disappointed when I hear hissing, popping, and a generally bad-sounding digital recording. If you don't believe me -- or if you yourself are thinking of getting firewire hardware for recording music, check this M-Audio link
